Using this calculator, you input the number of miles you drive each year, the cost of petrol in pence and the average fuel consumption rate of your car in miles per gallon. The result is the amount you spend on fuel. Most of us know how many miles per gallon our car does; for some reason, but typically not miles per litre. This makes calculating the annual petrol costs relatively complicated.
For example, you travel 12,388 miles a year in your car. The price of fuel is 98p a litre and your car runs at 35 miles to the gallon of fuel. Your annual expenditure on petrol based on these assumptions is £1,574.76.
